Our Story

          Greetings, my name is Alberto Sanchez, I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in the state of Florida. I am part owner, operator, and chief provider of Happy Minds Wellness Center; a private outpatient psychiatric mental health clinic in South Florida. I established Happy Minds Wellness Center back in the late months of 2018 with a colleague of mine; who is also a psychiatric clinician, my business partner, and my best friend, Melissa Patino. Melissa and I first met years ago working as critical-care nurses in a Neuro intensive care unit at one of the biggest County hospitals in the South Eastern United States. What united us both, and brought our minds together, was not only our love for psychiatry; it was that we were both very ambitious, purpose driven, goal oriented, and both had THE NURSE ENTREPRENEUR MINDSET.

 

          I remember multiple times, Melissa and I would sit around the unit’s nurses lounge after one of our dreaded, painful, 12-hour shifts watching the clock like a hawk, waiting for it to strike 7:00 AM so that we could punch out and go home. We were always spit-balling ideas, product inventions, concepts, projects, anything to advance our career and distract our minds from that next night’s shift. You see, Melissa and I didn’t have a definitive business plan or idea; but we had a vision and a goal. We knew what we wanted and what we didn’t want out of our professional careers.

What we wanted:

o Total control of our professional lives.

o Power in the decision-making process in our profession.

o Choice of when, where, and how long we worked.

o Be our own bosses, not having to answer to No-one.

o Having 100% complete autonomy.

o Lastly, we wanted our vision to be profitable.

These 6 points planted the seed in us both, that flourished into a VISION, PLAN, and GOAL of establishing and operating our own psychiatric private practice. Finally, in early 2019 we were both blessed to have the honor and privilege of attaining our vision, our goal, our dreams. Today Happy Minds Wellness Center is a healthy, very profitable, self-sustaining private practice in the South Florida area. Although we are extremely happy and blessed at where we are today, we both know that we took the long way around the bend to get here.

 

          Because we made so many mistakes and followed so much misinformation that led us to several dead-ends roads and so much wasted time; Melissa and I together unknowingly created a list of all the correct steps we did take that helped us advance in the process of opening up our own practice. We vowed to help those that would come behind us. Our peers, nurse practitioners with the same vision and dreams we had to open our own practice. We didn’t want anyone to go down the same tumultuous road we went through without guidance or direction. Melissa and I gathered all the valuable information compiled throughout the year on our long journey to open-up our own practice. Then we sat down one day and together we created THE BLUEPRINT; a detailed step-by-step guide to opening and operating your own private practice. This guide is not intended to be the “BE ALL-END ALL” manual of opening your own practice; meaning, there may be some additional steps you might have to take depending on the particular laws and regulations of your State… But if followed correctly this manual will get you to the finish-line.
